What is Rennie Peppermint Indigestion & Heartburn Relief?

Rennie Peppermint Tablets provide fast-acting relief from indigestion and heartburn by neutralising excess stomach acid. They can help ease discomfort caused by symptoms such as heartburn, bloating, trapped wind, flatulence, and general indigestion. Rennie tablets are available in refreshing peppermint and spearmint flavours.

Who is Rennie Peppermint suitable for?

These tablets are suitable for adults and children aged 12 years and over who are experiencing symptoms of indigestion or heartburn. If you often feel bloated or uncomfortable after eating, or experience a burning sensation in your chest, Rennie may help relieve your symptoms and restore comfort.

What is heartburn?

Heartburn is a burning sensation felt in the chest, often after eating. It’s caused by acid reflux, where stomach acid moves upward into the oesophagus, leading to irritation. While usually short-lived, it can be uncomfortable and disruptive.

How do Rennie Tablets Work?

Each Rennie Peppermint Tablet contains two active ingredients: 680mg of calcium carbonate and 80mg of magnesium carbonate. These antacids work together to neutralise stomach acid, converting it into water and other harmless substances. This reduces acidity and alleviates the irritation and discomfort associated with indigestion and heartburn.

Are Rennie Peppermint Tablets suitable for someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding?

Yes, Rennie Peppermint Tablets may be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding if taken as directed. However, you should always consult your doctor or Health Nest pharmacist before taking any medication during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

Can I take these tablets if I’m taking other medication?

Speak to your doctor or Health Nest pharmacist before using Rennie if you are taking other medications, as interactions may occur. Particular caution should be taken if you are using:

• Tetracyclines or quinolone antibiotics
• A thyroid hormone called Levothyroxine
• Eltrombopag, which is used to increase the number of your blood platelets
• Digoxin, which is used for some heart conditions
• Water tablets, which treat fluid retention or high blood pressure, also known as thiazide diuretics
• Fluorides, which help to prevent dental caries
• Phosphates, which help to clear the bowel before a surgical procedure
• Iron supplements

These substances may interact with Rennie and affect how your medications work.

How many tablets should I be taking a day?

• Take 2 tablets, 1 hour after meals and at bedtime.
• Chew or suck the tablets before swallowing.
• If needed, you may take 2 additional tablets between doses.
• Do not exceed 10 tablets in a 24-hour period.

If your symptoms persist after 14 days of use, consult your doctor or Health Nest pharmacist.

When should Rennie tablets not be used?

Do not use Rennie Peppermint Tablets if:

• You are under 12 years old.
• You are allergic to any of the ingredients.
• You have severe kidney disease.
• You have a history of kidney stones or high calcium levels in your urine.
• You have low phosphate levels or high calcium levels in your blood.

Avoid taking these tablets with large quantities of milk or dairy products.

Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using this product if you:

• Have mild or moderate kidney problems (you may require regular blood tests).
• Have been told you have an intolerance to some sugars.

Are there any side effects?

As with all medications, Rennie may cause side effects, although not everyone will experience them. Potential side effects include:

• Allergic reactions such as rash, itching, swelling of the face or throat, and difficulty breathing
• Anaphylactic shock (a severe allergic reaction)
• Increased calcium or magnesium levels in the blood, particularly after prolonged use or in those with kidney issues. Symptoms may include tiredness, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, muscle weakness, or altered taste.
• Rarely, long-term use may cause milk-alkali syndrome, leading to high calcium levels in the blood

If you experience any side effects, including any not included in the patient information leaflet, you can report them using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.

How to store these tablets

Store in a cool, dry place below 25°C. Keep in the original packaging and do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack. Keep all medicines out of sight and reach of children.
