Imodium Instant provides fast and effective relief against sudden attacks of short term diarrhoea or IBS diarrhoea. The tablets, which dissolve on your tongue, can provide relief from diarrhoea within one hour. Each tablet contains 2mg of loperamide hydrochloride.
Diarrhoea is common and will affect most people from time to time. Unfortunately, people that suffer from irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) can experience diarrhoea much more often.
Causes of short-term diarrhoea can include:
Food poisoning
A viral infection, such as norovirus
A bacterial infection, such as E.coli
A food allergy or intolerance
A reaction to medication
The exact cause of IBS is unknown, but there are some potential triggers that vary from person to person. These can include:
Stress
Anxiety
Diet
Hormonal changes
Imodium Instant Melts contain 2mg of the active ingredient loperamide hydrochloride. Loperamide tablets work by slowing down your overactive bowel, allowing water and salts that are usually lost in diarrhoea to be absorbed by your body more effectively.
Imodium Instants and Imodium Instant Melts are both dissolvable tablets that contain 2mg of loperamide hydrochloride. To purchase Imodium Instant Melts, however, a Chemist4U pharmacist will ask you to answer some questions first.
You do not need a prescription for Imodium Instant Melts, however, you will be asked to complete a short medical questionnaire by your Chemist4U pharmacist before we can take your order. This includes some simple questions that all pharmacies legally are required to ask before supplying this kind of product. This helps our pharmacy team to be sure that Imodium Instant Melts are the best choice for you.
A convenient alternative to regular tablets, Imodium Instant Melts can be dissolved on your tongue without the need for water. The dosage for Imodium Instant depends on whether you’re suffering from short-term diarrhoea or IBS diarrhoea.
For short-term diarrhoea, adults and children over 12 should take two tablets to start treatment, and then one tablet after each loose bowel movement. You must not take Imodium Instant Melts for attacks that last longer than 48 hours, and you must not take more than 6 tablets in a 24 hour period.
Only adults over 18 that have been medically diagnosed with IBS should use Imodium Instant to treat diarrhoea caused by IBS. In this instance, you should take two tablets to start treatment, and then one tablet after each loose bowel movement. You can use Imodium Instant Melts for up to 2 weeks for repeated attacks, however you must not take this medicine for any one attack that lasts longer than 48 hours. You must not take more than 6 tablets in a 24 hour period.
Imodium Instant Melts are a great alternative to other diarrhoea treatments for adults and children over 12 who have trouble swallowing tablets. Children under 12, however, should not take loperamide tablets. If your child is suffering with diarrhoea, speak to a Chemist4U pharmacist for advice or browse our diarrhoea relief range for suitable alternatives.
You must not take Imodium Instant Melts if:
You have ever had a severe allergic reaction to any of the ingredients
You have severe diarrhoea after taking antibiotics
You are suffering from a flare up of an inflammatory bowel disorder, such as ulcerative colitis
