Cetirizine Hydrochloride 10mg Tablets

Cetirizine Hydrochloride 10mg Tablets are a non-drowsy antihistamine used to relieve the symptoms of hay fever, skin allergies, and other allergic conditions such as pet or dust mite allergies. These tablets offer fast, effective relief from sneezing, itchy or runny nose, watery eyes, and hives (urticaria).

What is Cetirizine used for?

Cetirizine is commonly used to treat:

  • Hay fever (seasonal allergic rhinitis)
  • Perennial allergic rhinitis (year-round allergies caused by pet dander, mould, or dust mites)
  • Chronic idiopathic urticaria (persistent hives and itching)
  • Skin allergies, including reactions from insect bites

How does Cetirizine work?

Cetirizine is a second-generation antihistamine. It works by blocking histamine — a natural substance produced by the body during an allergic reaction. This helps to alleviate allergy symptoms without the drowsiness typically associated with older antihistamines.

Dosage Instructions

  • Adults and children over 12 years: Take 1 tablet (10mg) once daily.
  • Children aged 6 to 12 years: Half a tablet twice daily.

Swallow tablets whole with water. Do not exceed the recommended dose.

Who should not take Cetirizine?

Do not take Cetirizine Hydrochloride if you:

  • Are allergic to cetirizine, hydroxyzine, or any other tablet ingredients
  • Have severe kidney problems
  • Are taking other antihistamines (to avoid duplication)

Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine if you:

  • Have liver or moderate kidney problems
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Are due for allergy testing (as cetirizine may affect the results)

Possible Side Effects

Like all medicines, Cetirizine can cause side effects, although not everyone will get them. Common side effects include:

  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Dry mouth
  • Nausea
  • Drowsiness or fatigue (in some cases)

Seek immediate medical attention if you experience signs of an allergic reaction, such as:

  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Severe skin rash

Can I take Cetirizine with other medicines?

Always consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking cetirizine with other medications. Be particularly cautious if you are also using:

  • Sedatives or tranquilizers
  • Other allergy treatments

Driving and Using Machines

Although Cetirizine is classified as non-drowsy, some people may still feel sleepy. If affected, do not drive or operate machinery until you feel alert.
