Canesten Thrush External Cream 2% w/w/ Cream Clotrimazole relieves irritation of the vulva (vulvitis), which is caused by vaginal thrush (candidiasis). Although this cream provides relief from external irritation caused by vaginal thrush, it cannot treat any internal (vaginal) cause of the infection.

How Canesten Thrush External Cream 2% w/w Cream Clotrimazole works

The active ingredient in Canesten Thrush External Cream is clotrimazole. Clotrimazole belongs to a group of medicines called azoles and is an antifungal agent which fights the cause of infections such as vaginal thrush.

Directions

Always use Canesten Thrush External Cream 2% w/w Cream Clotrimazole exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor / Chemist4U pharmacist has told you.

Before use, pierce the tube seal by inverting the cap over the end of the tube and press. The cream should be thinly and evenly applied to the area around the entrance of the vagina, 2-3 times daily and smoothed in.

A product to treat the internal vaginal infection should be used at the same time.

Side effects

Canesten Thrush External Cream 2% w/w Cream Clotrimazole may cause side effects in some people, but these won’t affect everybody. There are no known reported side effects of this product.

Serious side effects

Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness.

Warnings

Canesten Thrush External Cream 2% w/w Cream Clotrimazole may be unsuitable for certain people. Do not use this product if you are allergic to any of the ingredients or if:

• You are unsure whether you have thrush or this is the first time you have had these symptoms
• You have had more than two infections of thrush in the last six months
• You or your partner have ever had a sexually transmitted disease
• You are aged under 16 or over 60

Do not use this product if you have any of the following symptoms:

• Irregular vaginal bleeding
• Abnormal vaginal bleeding or blood-stained discharge
• Ulcers, blisters or sores of the vagina or vulva
• Lower abdominal pain
• Pain or difficulty in passing urine
• Fever or chills
• Feeling sick or vomiting
• Diarrhoea
• A foul-smelling discharge from the vagina

Using/taking other medicines

If you are taking or have recently taken any other medication, including medication obtained without a prescription, talk to your GP or pharmacist before using this product.

Age restrictions

This product is not suitable for children under 16 years old.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, you must ask your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist for advice before using any new product. 

Storage information

Store in a cool, dry place out of sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date, referring to the last day of the month stated on the packaging. Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste.
